How Merge PDF Works

Merge PDF combines your files using pdf-lib's copyPages function, which duplicates each page's original content, text, images, and vector graphics, into a new document without re-encoding or recompressing anything. The order you arrange the files in determines the page order of the final PDF. The whole operation runs in this browser tab; nothing is uploaded.

1. Drop at least two PDFs

Drag two or more PDF files into the drop zone, or click to browse. Merge PDFs stays disabled until you have at least two files queued.

2. Reorder by drag and drop

Grab the handle on the left of a row to drag it up or down. The list order, top to bottom, is exactly the page order of the merged file.

3. Merge and download

Click Merge PDFs to combine them, then download the result. You'll see the file count, total page count, and merged file size.

What to Expect

Output size is roughly the sum of the inputs

Because pages are copied as-is rather than recompressed, merging doesn't reduce file size. Expect the merged PDF to be close to the combined size of your source files, plus a small amount of document overhead. Run the result through Compress PDF afterward if you need it smaller.

Changing the order resets the merge

Reordering files, adding a new one, or removing one after you've already merged clears the previous result. The Download button disappears until you click Merge PDFs again.

The output file is always named merged.pdf

There's no field to rename the file before downloading. Rename it afterward from your file manager if you need something else.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many PDFs can I merge at once?
There's no fixed limit in the tool itself. Add as many files as you like, as long as you have at least two. Very large batches will depend on your device's available memory, since every file is loaded into the browser tab.
Does merging reduce the combined file size?
No. Merge PDF copies each page's original content without recompressing it, so the merged file ends up close to the sum of your source files' sizes. If you need a smaller result, run it through Compress PDF after merging.
In what order do pages appear in the merged PDF?
Exactly the order the files are listed in, top to bottom. Drag the handle on the left of a row to move a file up or down before merging.
What happens if I reorder or remove a file after merging?
The previous merged result is discarded and the download button is hidden. Click Merge PDFs again to produce an updated file that reflects your changes.
Can I rename the merged file before downloading?
Not from within the tool: it always downloads as merged.pdf. Rename it afterward from your operating system's file manager if you need a different name.
